FLCL

Having seen FLCL, for perhaps maybe third time and I always enjoy it because of many things. What many things? Well, the main character happen to be 12 and he's nothing special, not good at sports, not good at school so it is huge surprise when alien woman appear all of a sudden and hit him on the head with guitar, left handed version, to be precisely and just change his world upside down.

I have to say that it's one of the best coming of age stories I've ever seen and it's not that hard to relate to the main character because we have experience in similar situation that he's in. Also, it is one of the beautiful animations I've ever laid my eyes on and I love how they experimented with different visuals like bullet time format, manga format, and paper cut South Park format. It's just refreshing and it's nice to see something is very original that is being produce in this decade, especially when we have to endure with bs from Hollywood. It's just fun to watch as long one don't analyze it like maniac. It's just fun stuff, really.

It is easy to understand to see what FLCL is all about when one has to pull in repeated viewings because it is so multi layered. I'm not sure if it's social commentary on corporations because I'm still figuring out what the hell is it about but I enjoy FLCL for what it is: just sheer fun and totally out whack. It's great anime series that one shouldn't missed. To me, it's not just typical OVA (Original Video Animation, which I grew up on when I was a kid) because it defied the category and that's why I admired it a lot. So good stuff.
