Anime Conji '11 Day 1 (or how I truly experience the excelsior times)
I honestly thought it would be hard to topped last year's Anime Conji but I am truly pleased to find that Anime Conji '11 has truly supplanted my expectations. This con represents 11th con for me overall and 5th anime con overall. This is truly singular best anime con I've had a pleasure of attending, bar none. I dubbed this year's Conji 'One Hall Con'.
I always go into cons with absolute zero expectations because if I tend to hype myself up way too much, there will be always stuff that let me down so I have to be careful about how to gauge my expectations. I went into PMX '09 with zero expectations and it turn out to be major revelation for me. Went into AX '10 with zero expectations and I was let down big time. Believe me, I was shocked that it was possible.
This is maybe second anime con that I truly bona fide soloed and I managed to have boatloads of fun because I mostly know everyone there at con so it was very flexible for me. I don't have to stay with the group for long and I'm able to do whatever I want to without any restrictions. For those whose remember Yuffie from my previous blog entries, she took up my personal invitation to staying at my house and I'm truly grateful because this con truly has strengthened our friendship.
Sora unfortunately wasn't able to go because of family situation. Yuffie and I were very saddened at this news but we opted to forge ahead and have fun at the con.
Pre-con drama before Conji was so insane that I was very unsure if I would have fun at this con but to my delight, pre-con drama mostly has been squashed. However, there was still sliver of drama but I don't let it bother me because I want to have fun.
I would argue that Anime Conji is very solo friendly con, especially for its size.
Sorry for ranting on but let us start with this oh so awesome blog. XD
The night before Conji starts, I was only expecting Yuffie but I suddenly was swamped with request from 3 people asking to crash at my place so I vetoed it because it's too last minute. Yuffie show up around midnight and we watch Firefly for a bit while she's working on her cosplay then we hit the hay.

My morning set up. Waiting for Yuffie to get up. As my personal rule for hosting someone, I must get up early before they do so I can assist them if they need anything. I usually watch Starcraft videos on my netbook, lol.

Yuffie's sewing machine just broke so she had to sew her outfits by the hands so I brought this sewing machine from my grandmother's room so Yuffie can start to working on it.
We agreed that we would leave around noon or so to hit up Claim Jumper restaurant then take the trolley to Conji.
Anime Conji '11 is maybe only singular con where I actually show up much later in the day instead of showing up early as usually for me at other cons. Average arrival time? Around 2 pm, lol.

Working on stuff. She is cosplaying as Mitsuru Kirijo of Persona 3 and I cosplayed as Komui Lee of D.Gray-Man.
Because of the weather, my cosplay plans had to change so Komui cosplay was last minute since I didn't plan to cosplay him at Conji but it paid off very well for me.

Yes, I'm Komui Lee! :D

Yuffie with her tasty meal at Claim Jumper. I'm sure we attracted lot of attention for our cosplays.

Best hamburger ever. :D

After Claim Jumper, we hit up Wal-mart so she can pick up stuff for her bartending duties after hours when Conji is closed.

We took the trolley because I didn't really want to pay 14 bucks per day for parking at Conji.
However, I did parked at Conji for later days at Conji and I think I only paid maybe few bucks in total? Not too shabby.

Waiting for the trolley to arrive.

Riding the trolley.

The pool at Conji. It's the primary hang out area for the cosplayers.

Middle of the Conji. Basically, this is single hall con with lot of contents around so it's very easy to find something to do. Drawback to this is that it's bit jarring and can feel like maze.

Hitting up the game room.

Watching Kashi playing yugioh. Didn't want to bother him since he was playing.

Yes, that's the coffee cup. Best prop ever because it really add a lot to my cosplay since my character always drink a lot of coffee. However, I hate coffee so I opted to fill it up with water to keep me hydrate.
On this day, more people actually stopped me to take the picture of me in Komui cosplay than any other cons/gatherings combined, which speaks the volume of my cosplay so I'll continue to wear this cosplay for sure. If people really like it a lot enough to stop me every few feet then I must do a good job.

I opted to wrap the badge lanyard onto my coffee cup because frankly, when you hit up many cons as I did, it get tiresome to wear it on the neck. Also, it's easy to hide the badge behind the cup should someone stop me for the picture.

Hang out with Turkey, whom I met quite few times at the previous gatherings. I feel bad about accidentally spill the liquid on her cosplay but she was cool about it. She had tough situation since her name didn't show up in database when pick up the badge and had to repay for the badge again. I would be upset if that happen to me. I'm glad that she let me hang out with her because she's really cool girl.

Jeramy in vest. He was so damn good cosplayer to the point where he was like, do you remember me saying hi to you and I don't even remember him saying hi to me at all.

Back to the pool.

Marly in ODST cosplay with Yuffie. It was good to see him and he agree with my opinion about Conji, which is awesome con ever.

Stop this girl for the picture before I hit up Leo's room for session of Starcraft and my personal photo shoot.

Komui is reading the manga! :D

Sooooo good stuff.

How to pwn the noobs.

Komui on netbook.

Sipping the coffee.

Me with Leo. A huge personal thank to Leo for enriching my experience at Conji as my personal photographer and save my ass when I really need it.

Hetalia panel, the source of pre-con drama but I'm glad that they resolve so this panel turns out to be awesome.

10th Doctor cosplayer! I see this dude a lot at Conji, lol.

Riding the trolley car to transport the stuff for Tawny and Danielle to sell stuff at swap meet.

A session of Starcraft game!

Who will win?
This alone secure Conji very very very memorable con for me because I am able to enjoying Starcraft in cosplay. :D It's awesome experience since I can literally do whatever to my heart's contents.

Setting everything up before swap meet open.

Swap meet time!

Curious customers. Only cash I ever drop during swap meet is for recovery aid to Japan.

Danielle is negotiating with potential buyers.

Chilling with cute Prussia. :D

Kashi as Sebby from Black Butler. Immediately after I snap this one, he asked me about my cosplay so we start to chatting and it was a pleasure because he's so well known figure in cosplay community so I feel honored about that. After few minutes, we exchanged numbers so we can text each other and he gave me nice hug so I feel awesome about it.
Went home after this to rest up a bit, waiting for Yuffie to text me to pick her up around 2 am. She's always in demanding for bartending duties at every anime cons that I've been at, which is insane but I didn't mind as long we keep open communication, we should be golden.
After I picked her up and drove home, we hit the hay so get ready for epic day the next day. :)

As I have said, lot and lot of people stopped me for the picture but this is only picture I could find. I hope to find some more online since I want to see Komui Lee wearing backpack, lol.
