Cosplay Picnic '10 (or Evercracking it up with cosplayers)
It was my first time attending this type of gathering so this would be very interesting experience for me. My buddy want me to drive all the way to Fullerton so I accept it. On morning of Cosplay Picnic, I woke up really early like 4 am just because I was too hyper and excited about the event. So I decide to work on the wig but damn, it's very challenging to make it look very Soul Eater Evans. I think I did decent job but the wig could have been much better.
I opted for casual Soul Eater Evans because it's easier to move around in that outfit instead of his regular outfit, which would have required me to wear thick shoes, dark red pants, and jacket. Thankfully, I wore casual version since it was very hot outside plus this outfit doesn't cost me that much dough.
Due to my itchy nature, I left San Diego at 8 am and arrive at park an hour early just because I want to secure good parking spot. I find the driving to be somewhat decent and less challenging than my previous trip to PMX, which was rather arduous.
Here's the pics for you guys to feast on!
Show up early and the place was rather empty except for the organizers and few cosplayers. I just hit up pre-reg line and got nice shiny red wristband and raffle ticket.
The park is very spacious and beautiful. Lot of great photo ops with cosplayers, although I myself rarely took a chance just because I like to wander around a bit too much.
The guy on drum set has been there since 7 am because he's trying to set up Rock Band equipment and he mentioned that drum kit is very difficult to set up. It was really cool to see him playing drum on hardcore mode, which hurts my eyes by watching him play.
Watching couple of cosplayers interacting with each other on other side of park.
Posing with other cosplayer.
Met up with this guy, whose post on same forum that I'm member of. He's member of press but the park won't allow him to film anything, which sucks. I'm huge fan of his work because he does everything from fan's perspective, which is very refreshing. Hung out with him quite few times throughout the day. He sure love yu-gi-oh cards a lot. ;)
Yay for furry cosplayer!
So cool to see pug at cosplay picnic. :) Everyone was surrounding him to take the picture of him. :D
How can you not like the zombie cosplayer?
Watching group of cosplayers rock the Rock Band.
Snap this cool picture of badass cosplayer.
General area of cosplay picnic, although quite few cosplayers hang out outside of this area.
Those pictures show how beautiful the park is. My friend and I walk around as we're searching for Plan B Cosplay Picnic, which was set up for cosplayers who had miss the deadline to purchase the tickets.
We finally found the Plan B Cosplay Picnic, which is located near the lake. Yuffie, the great ninja, is posing for this picture. She gave us nice homemade bracelets, which is nice.
We soon return back to official Cosplay Picnic to interacting with other cosplayers further.
Scorpion, he is badass mofo. Don't be messing with him.
Spoke with reporter kid and ask him if he want to check out Plan B Cosplay Picnic and he told me that he will take a quick look so I lead him and his friends to the location of Plan B. He told me that it's like walk 500 miles to there, LOL. He was surprised at the small size of Plan B and we had a discussion about the cliques of anime circles. Keen observant, that kid is.
Black Star and Death!
That's where they cook the foods.
The condiment table. Very messy, LOL. Only had few meals because I find that I like interacting with other people a lot. But I did drink a lot of fluids to stay hydrate.
I want that Kaito cosplay on the left. It looks so awesome!
Son, shouldn't you be praying to your creator by now?
This shows how sprawling the cosplayers are all over the park. It makes it bit challenging to get good pictures of specific cosplayers since they like to bounce around the place.
Returning back to Plan B because I want mellow and relaxing atmosphere, which I did get. My friend and I ended up hang out with couple of cool girls cosplayers for whole afternoon. I got to talk to one of them, whom is legendary Sora cosplayer. XD
Watching them dance.
Me with July, the legendary Sora cosplayer. It's odd for me to see her cosplay the other character than Sora but I find her to be very warm and friendly. It was truly a pleasure to hang out with her.
Anyone up for playing 'Where's (inserting character's name here)'?
Watching reporter dude playing yu-gi-oh cards. Looks very complicated.
Raffle time! Sadly, I didn't win anything.
Posing for the picture.
Aww.
Yuffie switch to Star Trek cosplay. I must say that she looks very amazing in it. :D
My finest hour as an amateur photographer. Sora with her girlfriend in various poses. Sunset was about to happen so there was a lot of good lighting so I took the chance to take a lot of great pictures.
Yuffie chilling around.
Me with July, the legendary Sora cosplayer.
Members of Plan B! :D
The final shot I took. Very worthy of it because I think it's quite stunning. Rochelle, be proud! :)
I think it's important to state that I have fantastic time at Cosplay Picnic and I would do it again next year if July and her friends will be there as well because I find our interactions to be very enjoyable. I will always cherish that day because it's about mellow and getting along with other people. I'm so thankful that they set up Plan B because the atmosphere there is very intimate and quiet, which suits my personality the best.
There's one moment that I will always cherish the most is when we were walking to official cosplay picnic for raffle time and July put her cloak on me. It's just so amazing moment for me to experience because it's unique for me. It felt really good to wear that cloak, LOL.
It was very long driving home but my friend and I got the meal at Subway, which was nice.
Cosplay Picnic is truly uber amazing!
