SDCC '12 Day 0 (makeshift miracle)
When I looked back, Anime Conji '11 remains the pinnacle of my con going so I decide to apply the formula of that con to SDCC '12 to mix it up. At previous SDCC, I would follow very rigid schedule with no improvising. But this time, I only pick the panels that I truly want to see and cut out the filler panels, which is huge change for me this year. But I think that this approach is the best.
Also, I did not depend so heavily on my friends this time around. Last year's SDCC reflects that and it botched big time for me, hence the change in my approach to SDCC. I only hang out with friends if the time is right or they are willing to but I only focus on my own personal enjoyment at SDCC since it's my own time.
This was the first time where I was volunteer/staff for SDCC so that was fun experience. I did not do that much work but I did some stuff if they need me. I took very calm and relaxing approach to this year's SDCC and it has succeeded big time so I am very happy about that.
Day 0 of SDCC has start. I elected not to cosplay for Day 0 and 1, due to the volunteering.
Trolley FTW. I only paid 20 bucks for trolley for duration of SDCC. Better than having to cough up 30 bucks per day for parking near SDCC. Also, this enable me to read the books on my Kindle, which is good.
And I'm here!
Walking to SDCC, being all excited.
In front of line for volunteering. I saw my friends in front of line so I decide to cut to the front, lol. I'm surprised that they did not chew me out.
Josh and Lisa. They're super cool people. Josh served as a translator for me so I'm truly grateful for that.
Me with Josh. He's huge Resident Evil fan.
Me with Josh's best friend, Lisa. Very cool chick.
Tried to registering for the volunteering. But they told me that they had no shifts on site today and I was baffled because I suspected that they need volunteers to help with stuff. Preview night can be super hectic.
After few confusing minutes, my group finally got the assignment and we hit up the staff room near Ballroom 20.
"Almost there, guys." My job was to delivering the message to the folks in Lobby D. But volunteering on this day has its drawback. I had an issue with security whose won't let me enter on 2nd floor so I had to run back to the volunteering desk to get an escort to help me out. It was frustrating but that's huge gambling to take on Day 0.
Me with Stephen. Huge Walking Dead fan. He's cool cat.
Me with Josh. The photographer dude.
Me with Ismael. Very hilarious guy.
I want to thank those guys for making volunteering a pleasure for me.
Heading back to Lobby A.
Get another volunteering assignment tomorrow with my group since I enjoyed their company so much.
Chilling in front of disabled services table for next few hours. It was not too bad since I've been in line in sail pavilion and it can be very draining.
That's my buddy, Mon Jay. I have known him since '95, lol.
So this year, the disabled services has provide us with additional badge that enable to bypass the line and security with no issues. This was very helpful since it reduce the headache for me when it come to dealing with the security.
My badges for next 4 days. My precious!
Walking to the hotel front of SDCC to help out my supervisor with carrying stuff. I volunteered first because I knew that I would not do that much work so I opted to do it now.
That's the hotel front of SDCC. It was only few minutes walk from SDCC, lol. But it's very expensive to stay in.
Believe it or not, that's inside the elevator. I was literally @_@ when I saw that.
That's the view of SDCC from my supervisor's room. My jaw literally drop when I saw the view.
Chilling for a bit then my friend and his mother show up at SDCC since I have 2 preview night passes for them. I want to help them out so I don't mind. I was surprised at the amount of preview night passes they pass out. It was so insane.
Someone sent me on an errand with Tony, my friend. Along the way, we met this cool cosplayer.
Silly Tony.
Awesome Roxas cosplayer.
Then the errand did not work out so we return back to disabled services table so we can proceed to go into the exhibition hall.
Whoa! It never get old everytime I enter the exhibition hall. :D
Sooooo roomy. Shame that this place fill up so fast. :(
Power Ranger!
Me with my oh so awesome badges. :D
Met up with Alisha and her husband. It was so nice to see them again.
Sooooo crowded.
"No worries, we are going to pwn some noobs."
My personal view on exhbitiion hall. Super crowded.
OMG, 2 Ness cosplayers! XDDD
"Noob, GTFO!!!"
Met up with Heather and Veve. I've always thought of them as stunning beautiful couple I met. They were nothing but being sweet and gracious towards me, which I greatly appreciated.
Jahlon, whose is awesome Goku cosplayer. :DDD
That's Alex Halcyon in black shirt. I was suprrised that I run into him few times at SDCC, lol. But he's super cool guy.
Whoa, someone bought 2 Portal guns. They are like... 150 bucks each, which is insane.
"So you're going to shoot those guns to get home, right?"
That's Derek, the proud owner of 2 Portal guns. He's from Ohio, if I recalled correctly. He's really nice and chill.
"OMG, I want one of them!"
Then we decided to hit up a spaghetti factory for dinner.
Gaslamp is awfully crowded.
Texting away on my smartphone.
That's Tony. I have same plastic mask as he does but I opted to give it away to little boy because I have no use for it.
OMG, it's so dark here in Spaghetti Factory. Very weird, me thinks.
My dinner! :D
Walking to the trolley station.
I was surprised at how much fun I had on this day. I honestly did not expect it at all so it was really awesome. I want to thank Tony and his mother for making this day a great one for me. When I got home, I was shocked that it was only Day 0 so I had to prepare for the next day, lol. But it was an excellent start to SDCC '12. :DDD
